Lake County Announces Taxpayer Relief

News & Updatescranetaxlaw.com

Joining several other collar counties, Lake County announced yesterday that they would provide a measure of relief to taxpayers paying their 2019 property tax bills originally due this June and September. The relief amounts to a deferred payment of 50% of the tax bill owed for both installments.

Under the plan announced by the Lake County Board, taxpayers will still need to pay 50% of their 2019 tax bill on the original due dates of June 8 and September 8 of 2020. However, the remaining 50% of the taxes owed can be paid up to 2 months after those original due dates. That means the full amount owed for the first installment will not be due until August 7, 2020 and the full amount owed for the second installment will not be due until November 9, 2020.

While local governments have been quick to provide some semblance of relief to taxpayers who are being expected to pay tax bills during an unprecedented pandemic, the work of assessing and valuing property continues apace.
