Cook County Assessor Suspends Notices and Deadlines

News & Updatescranetaxlaw.com

On March 29th, Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi suspended all assessment notice mailings and deadlines. What this means for taxpayers is that the process by which assessments in Cook County are issued and appealed has been put on hold, for now. Previously, assessment notices had been mailed out for the townships of River Forest, Riverside, Evanston, Norwood Park, Rogers Park, Oak Park, New Trier, Palos and Barrington. However, remaining deadlines for 2020 assessments are now officially in limbo as the Cook County Assessor determines what steps his office will take to assess property in 2020.

While the Cook County Assessor has yet to announce a new schedule for assessments in Cook County, it is imperative that taxpayers remain vigilant as the assessment calendar is now likely to be compressed into a very narrow window of time. There has already been discussion by the Assessor related to shortening the amount of time between assessment notice and deadline to appeal.

Crane and Norcross continues to prepare for the time when the Cook County Assessor again sends assessment notices and accepts appeals. If you have any questions about this process, please contact us at info@craneandnorcross.com or 312-726-9161.
