2 Month Extension granted for property tax bills due in 2021

The due date for property taxes in Cook County will, once again, be more of a suggestion as the Cook County Board of Commissioners voted last November to waive late fees on 1st and 2nd installment property tax bills being mailed to taxpayers in 2021. The bills, which are for Tax Year 2020, will be due in 2 installments on March 2, 2021 and August 2, 2021. However, just like the 2nd installment of Tax Year 2019 that was initially due on August 3, 2020, there will be no late fees charged for bills paid in full within 2 months of those initial due dates.

The measure is the latest attempt by Cook County lawmakers to soften the economic blow dealt to Cook County residents by the COVID-19 pandemic. For the 1st installment, late fees will not be levied until after May 3 while the 2nd installment will not see late fees imposed until after October 1.

While Cook County taxpayers have been granted more time to pay their tax bills this year, the size of those tax bills remain high for many. If you have any questions about your property tax assessment or bill, please contact us at info@craneandnorcross.com or 312-726-9161.
